Thank you to everyone who helped make the 60th Annual Virginia Mennonite Relief Sale a success! It may not have been a sunny day, but it was a wonderful day to serve, see friends, and to give generously to the work of Mennonite Central Committee. I especially want to thank the many volunteers who make this event possible. We know that serving at the Relief Sale can sometimes be stressful and exhausting, but please know that your work makes a difference in the lives of people around the world. We are all working together to raise money for MCC in the name of Christ.

Through this weekend’s event, we have raised funds to reach and serve people whom Jesus calls us to care for. It would be wonderful to reach the $500,000 mark this year! If you would still like to make a donation, you can donate online or send a check payable to VA Mennonite Relief Sale to:

Many of the things that happen at the Relief Sale began when someone took the initiative to say, “I would like to do ______.” If you feel led, please consider taking that initiative and organizing something for next year’s Relief Sale. New ideas and willing volunteers are an important part of keeping this event going.

Finally, mark your calendars! The Walking Roots Band will hold a benefit Christmas concert to raise money for MCC on Friday, December 11, at 6:30 p.m. at Eastern Mennonite High School.

Auction Highlights

Another great auction this year. We had 685 registered bidders and 274 unique winners across our three auctions: Silent Auction, Friday, and Saturday. We had over 400 donors, over 500 items contributed, and an incredible show of support for the mission and work MCC does around the world. Here are some of the top auction items.

27 items sold for $1,000 or more.

• Copper Monticello-Style Lantern: $12,000
• Quilt from the first VA Mennonite Relief Sale: $7,500
• Starbright Queen Quilt: $5,000
• Wet-Bottom Shoofly Pie: $2,600
• Star of Wonder Quilt: $2,300

Overall, it was a beautiful day with lots of people attending. I love seeing everyone working together, enjoying each other’s company and generously donating.
